The Official Press Release
Lakeshore Records releases the soundtrack for In Bruges, composed by Carter Burwell, with songs by Townes van Zant, The Pretenders, The Dubliners, and The Walkmen
(January 31, 2008- Los Angeles, CA) – Lakeshore Records will release the original motion picture soundtrack for IN BRUGES on iTunes February 5th and in stores on February 12th. The album features original music by Carter Burwell (NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, GODS AND MONSTERS). IN BRUGES was the film that opened the 2008 Sundance Film Festival.
Composer Carter Burwell began composing for film in the mid-1980s for the Coen Brothers first feature film, BLOOD SIMPLE. This has lead to a twenty year collaboration on such films as FARGO, THE BIG LEBOWSKI, THE HUDSUCKER PROXY, O BROTHER WHERE ART THOU?, and NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN. Burwell’s credits also include BEING JOHN MALKOVICH, BEFORE NIGHT FALLS, VELVET GOLDMINE, THE SPANISH PRISONER, and THREE KINGS.
IN BRUGES was filmed on location; Bruges (pronounced "broozh"), the most well-preserved medieval city in the whole of Belgium, is a welcoming destination for travelers from all over the world. But for hit men Ray (Colin Farrell) and Ken (Brendan Gleeson), it could be their final destination; a difficult job has resulted in the pair being ordered right before Christmas by their London boss Harry (two-time Academy Award nominee Ralph Fiennes) to go and cool their heels in the storybook Flemish city for a couple of weeks.
But the longer they stay waiting for Harry's call, the more surreal their experience becomes, as they find themselves in weird encounters with locals, tourists, violent medieval art, a dwarf American actor (Jordan Prentice) shooting a European art film, Dutch prostitutes, and a potential romance for Ray in the form of Chloë (Clémence Poésy), who may have some dark secrets of her own. And when the call from Harry does finally come, Ken and Ray's vacation becomes a life-and-death struggle of darkly comic proportions and surprisingly emotional consequences. Focus Features presents IN BRUGES, in theaters on February 8. The Lakeshore Records recording will be available on iTunes on February 5, 2008 and in stores on February 12, 2008.

Carter Burwell did a really good job! The music really makes the film, sets the mood and makes the comedy funnier and the action more... action-ish? But he's done a great job before - click his name for his official website where you can see his work. You can also download the soundtrack through iTunes.
